News: Inauguration of EWB Trichy chapter

On the eleventh of April, 2016 NITT witnessed the inauguration of the NIT Trichy chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB). EWB is a global organization with chapters in 45 different countries with 16,800 active members. As the name suggests, it aims at providing technical expertise through engineering students and working professionals to solve social problems.

The evening was presided over by our beloved director Dr. Srinivasan Sundarrajan sir, who gave a very motivating speech highlighting the need for more such organizations and also appreciated the efforts of the students who came together to form the chapter. The faculty advisor, Dr. N. Anantharaman delivered the welcome address. The event also witnessed the esteemed presence of Dr. Shaukat Ali Mirza, the head of EWB India. He delivered an engrossing talk on the problems faced by the world and where engineers fit into the picture. He also emphasized the importance of time over money, rightly stating that “Time is more expensive than money” and how we should spend time rather than money to help others in need.The event came to a close with a report on the activities of the NIT Trichy chapter followed by the vote of thanks by the President of the EWB, NIT Trichy chapter.
